Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, who processes it, and the choices you have. Written in plain English rather than boilerplate.
Last updated: September 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Yard Flock (yardflock.com) collects when you visit the site, why we collect it, how it is used, and the choices you have. We have written it in plain English on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email us and we will explain it.
1. Who we are
Yard Flock is an online publisher of research based buying guides and informational content about backyard poultry keeping. For the purposes of data protection law, Yard Flock is the controller of personal data collected through yardflock.com. You can contact us about privacy matters at hello@yardflock.com.
2. Information you give us
We only receive information from you when you choose to send it. That includes:
- Your name and email address, and anything else you write, when you contact us by email or through a contact form.
- Your name, email address and comment text if you leave a comment where comments are enabled.
- Any information you volunteer in correspondence, such as a description of your coop setup when you send a correction.
We do not sell products directly, so we never see your payment details, your shipping address, or your order history. Those stay with the retailer.
3. Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, our servers and analytics tools record technical information when a page loads. This typically includes your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen size, the page you requested, the page that referred you, and the date and time of the request.
This information is used in aggregate to understand which guides are useful, to spot broken pages, and to keep the site secure and fast. We do not use it to build a personal profile of you, and we do not attempt to identify individual readers from it.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use them for analytics, affiliate attribution, and remembering basic preferences. The full breakdown, including how to control or block them, is on our Cookie Policy page.
5. Third party services we use
| Service | Purpose | Data it may process |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Aggregate traffic and content performance measurement | IP address (typically truncated), device and browser data, pages viewed, referral source |
| Amazon Associates | Affiliate link attribution and commission tracking | Referral identifier and click data when you follow an affiliate link to Amazon |
| Hosting and CDN provider | Serving the site and protecting it from abuse | IP address, request logs, security event data |
| Email provider | Receiving and replying to your messages | Your email address and the content of your message |
We may add or change providers over time. When a change materially affects how your data is handled, we update this page and revise the date at the top.
6. How we use information
- To operate, maintain and improve the site and its content.
- To reply to your messages and process corrections you send us.
- To understand aggregate traffic patterns and decide what to publish next.
- To attribute affiliate referrals so that qualifying purchases are credited correctly.
- To detect, prevent and investigate abuse, fraud and security incidents.
- To comply with legal obligations and to establish or defend legal claims.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers for their own marketing, and we do not rent or trade mailing lists.
7. Legal bases for processing
Where the General Data Protection Regulation applies, we rely on the following legal bases: your consent, for optional cookies and any correspondence you initiate; our legitimate interests, in operating a secure, functional and improving website; and legal obligation, where retention or disclosure is required by law. You may withdraw consent at any time, and withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before withdrawal.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data deleted, to restrict or object to processing, to receive your data in a portable format, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what categories of personal information are collected and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information as that term is defined by the CCPA. To exercise any right, email hello@yardflock.com with a description of your request. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act, and we will respond within the timeframe required by the applicable law.
9. Data retention
Correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and to maintain a record of corrections made to the site, and then deleted. Aggregate analytics data is retained according to the retention settings of the analytics provider. Server and security logs are kept for a limited period and then rotated out.
10. Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection and we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data we hold. No method of transmission or storage on the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, and we ask that you avoid sending sensitive personal information by email.
11. International transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. Where required, those transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses adopted by the relevant authority.
12. Children
This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact hello@yardflock.com and we will delete it.
13. Links to other sites
Our guides link to retailers, manufacturers and published sources. Once you follow a link you are on someone else’s site and their privacy policy governs what happens next. We have no control over their practices and we are not responsible for them.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The current version is always posted on this page with the last updated date at the top. Material changes will be reflected in that date, so it is worth checking if you are relying on a specific provision.
15. Contact
Privacy questions and requests go to hello@yardflock.com.

Research method
Everything on Yard Flock is built from manufacturer specifications, published poultry and extension literature, and verified owner reviews. We do not test products in a coop of our own, and we say so on every page.
